Homespun Dolls Welcome
Hello Welcome to HomespunDolls blog page. I am a self taught doll artist who creates fantasy art dolls. All of my little ones live and work in a little piece of my backyard called Elftown. During their creation they all have their own personal story that is told just for them. I hope you enjoy them as much as I do making them.

Olive the pixie
Ive been thinking up lots of new little ones for Christmas lately. This is one that I just had to do. A little pixie girl so excited to get her first kiss that she makes a mistletoe head piece to wear. I wanted her to look impatient and excited and confident at the same time, lol. I also wanted her to barely be looking up, like she wanted to make sure the mistletoe was still there. After sculpting her little face, I couldnt help but laugh at her expression. I immediately pictured her with red hair and a fancy dress waiting for that kiss.
Sometimes I make a doll that I dont want to part with, this is one of those dolls. I cant re-create them and unfortunately I cant keep all of them. So Olives been listed, but if she doesnt sell then thats more than ok with me. :)

Little Woodland Christmas Elves And Open House at the Gallery on the Square
Last night was the first Open House for the Gallery on the Square here in Pocahontas. It was also the first really cold windy day for us here. Jean the owner of the Gallery and a wonderful artist friend and I were concerned with the bitter cold that no-one would show. Boy were we wrong, people started coming at 5:30 and we didnt even have the punch bowl filled. They continued to stream in until past closing time. It was a packed house at times and we were give out by the end. It was so worth it though. We met lots of really nice people from right here in town and elsewhere. Some of the paintings found new homes and one of my little dolls, Mosely the Tree Sprout did too.
I completed Holly and Berry late Wed. night just in time for the show. A lovely lady had requested a Woodland Chrismtas boy and girl to display during the upcoming holdiday. Holly and Berry are the little elves who go out into the deepest parts of the forest to fetch the best presents they can find for their family. Holly enjoys wrapping the nuts and berries they find while Berry delivers the gifts.

A goblin and a Sprout
Its only a couple of days until Halloween but Ive already been playing Christmas music. I had it in my head that I would do a series of 3 Goblin door-keepers. I have completed 2 counting this sleeping goblin and Ollie. I have the head done to number 3 and he is a cranky goblin for sure. But right after I finished his head I had the urge to do a new type of fae. A little sprite, dressed as a tree root with only his face and hands showing. That is how the little sprout Mosely came to be.

Felix the Dancer & the Art show
Busy Busy thats what I have been :) I did a clay doll sculpting demonstration during the Rock N Roll festival here in town. We had a really good turn out and I met alot of very nice people. I sculpted 2 different doll heads but due to the rolling they did on the way home they were destroyed. I did sculpt a dancing goblin named Felix. I loved making his wrinkled face. Currently I am creating a cranky lil Jester, I have him complete and dressed. Now I am working on his sceptor to see if that will put a smile on that cranky face.

Wow! To the umpteen zillionth wow! I submitted Darbin in the Steampunk category a few months ago. I hadnt heard anything and figured they must not have liked him. When I opened the mail box today I seen the Nov issue of Dolls. I glanced through it on my way into the house and there he was! My Darbin in all his finery! So exciting, I called all my family and friends, messaged his buyer to let her know. Pumpkin Boy
I sculpted pumpkin boys head out of polymer clay over a walnut covered with masking tape. His arms and legs were something new for me, I used epoxy putty. I wanted them to look gnarled and viney but be strong enough to withstand shipping. I got what I was looking for and it was easier to do then I thought it would be. I used regular hardware store putty (loctite) which sets up very quickly. Its not something you can get that smooth seamless look with but it is perfect for a fustic rough look. It also took the paint rather well.
